Linao is one of the largest and progressive of the 34 barangays of the Municipality of Matalam. It became a regular barangay 55 years ago under the municipality of Kidapawan, then later by Kabacan and finally of this municipality It has a wide irrigated lowland area planted to palay while the upland area is mostly planted to permanent crops such as coconut especially rubber trees. The name Linao derived from the word " MALINAO" , an Ilonggo term which means "MATIN-AW" or clear as it was formed through the junction of three rivers; Dalapuan, Muhimilit, and Linao . Datu Calagyo, a Manobo chieftain a tribal leader and early settler insisted that the place is called Linao because of the serenity of the deep portion of the river which for him means a peaceful entry and settlement of his relatives and Christians.
Barangay Linao is situated in one of the rich valleys of the north-eastern of the municipality at the boundaries of the municipalities s of Antipas and Pres. Roxas which are part and portion of the vast Arakan Valley Complex. It is 25 kilometers away from the municipal poblacion and 40 kilometers away from the Division Office in Amas, Kidapawan City. It has an area of 2,200 hectares of land of which 90 hectares located in the southern portion is a reserved town site divided into residential lots and others as lots for other public utilities.
The community is under the able stewardship of strong and conscientious leaders led by an energetic Punong Barangay Nerio J. Cabundocan and assisted by equally active barangay kagawads, who are either government employee retirees, religious lay leaders and progressive businessmen and successful farmers. The community leaders had been in one way been supportive of the school programs and projects of the school.Likewise in the campaign against drug addiction, the barangay council's Committee on Peace and Order is working all along with the school's Drugs Education Prevention Committee, headed by the school principal.
In its early years of existence , this community was inhabited by the Manobos. However, they moved towards the upper portion of the complex when more and more Christians came in for permanent settlement dominantly by the Hiligaynons, then the Ilocanos, Cebuanos and others tribes of which 1% are the indigenous tribes. It has a population of 5,000 inhabitants of which 13% of these are of age bracket, 13 - 16.
